The Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave men’s bowling team came into the University of Pikeville Orange and Black Classic as the defending Champion. There were 26 different schools represented at this collegiate tier 2 event.
The Crimson Wave men used their assortment of Roto Grip and Storm bowling Balls to roll through the field. The CCSJ men were led by Charles Smoot with a 207 average. Calumet struggled with consistent shot making but squeaked into match play in the 8th position. Despite the daunting task ahead, the Crimson Wave came out firing and downed top seed Morehead 3-1 in best of five match play. Then came #5 seed Martin Methodist and again, CCSJ would prevail 3-1. This propelled them into the championship match against Saginaw Valley State, a rematch from last year’s final. The championship match was a see-saw battle and was eventually tied at 2 games a piece. In the final, CCSJ was down going into the 9th frame and needed a double in the tenth. The CCSJ anchor would step up and execute a perfect shot that would just kick the ten out sending Calumet to a repeat championship in the Upike Orange and Black Classic by 6 pins over Saginaw.
