5 x 5 x 3 - Dare Devil
When first I heard about the Dare Devil and it’s design intent, I was confused that the “look” of the core shape could produce the kind of motion described. When I read that Brand Manager Chris Schlemer mentioned it was a little stronger than an IQ Tour pearl and a little less than a Marvel Pearl, he had me sold. The Marvel Pearl is one of my all-time favorite balls and I patterned this ball to go in that spot as my tired old seeing-eye dog MP is ready to be retired. To make up for the differences in the core numbers, I make this one slightly stronger to get them closer. It’s remarkable how close Chris has gotten on the design of this one. Very clean down the lane and a strong sustained movement to the pocket. Initially, it had a shape that reminded me of a same-drilled Hy-Wire I have, but by slightly breaking the cover to take away the extra length, the shape at the breakpoint started earlier and was a little more “curvy” and less of a check-mark shape. There is little doubt I’m going to drill a couple of these to fit in spots in my bag.
