Martez Banks, an Item Manager assigned to the 414 Supply Chain Management Squadron and a reservist assigned to the 419th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hill Air Force Base, UT used his Roto Grip Defiant Soul to bowl games of 267, 243, and 286 for a total of 796 earning him the high scratch series of the 89th Annual Utah State USBC BA Championship Bowling Tournament.
Banks used his Defiant Soul eight of nine games to finish 16th in Scratch All events. I used the Defiant Soul on both the fresh and breakdown and only moved about three boards the entire tournament. Once I changed my sights from dots to arrows it was just a matter of carry.
I credit my current resurgence to pro shop operator Brandon Smith and the staff at Bountiful Bowl. Brandon not only changed my pitches but introduced me to the Defiant Line as an experiment and we haven’t looked back. Additionally, I would like to thank the Storm Technical Staff, particularly Mike Sargent for providing comprehensible technical advice and explanation regarding ball characteristics and perceived reaction.
I am a bit REV challenged and prefer to roll up the boards and I usually have less than desirable results when I move inside; however, with the Defiant line (especially the Soul) I can play up the boards with precision, or a bit deeper (up to 7 boards) and watch the ball move to the pocket with an even and consistent, yet explosive reaction. The Defiant and Defiant Soul will be my primary weapons of choice for the fresh conditions at Nationals (mid-June), with the Lucid and IQ Pearl for the break down.

Started bowling last year and bought my 1st ball this year. 1st ball i bought was the Defiant Soul. Since having it drilled i have seen a vast improvement in my scores and average. Bowled my 1st 300 earlier this month. I started out with 3 strikes when the urge to need to go to the bathroom overcame me, I held onto it and bowled the next 3 frames when i really needed the bathroom however i just forced it out of my mind and concentrated on the lanes. I got to the 10th frame the 1st two strikes where nice and sweet that is when my whole body started to shake my legs got all trembly and was struggling to hold onto the ball. I took a deep breath and threw my last shot and hit the pocket and blew the pins away and i collapsed on the lane in a state of glory and relief.

JW Honeysucker has never shot a 700 series. That is until he drilled a Defiant Soul. JW attended a matchmaker event hosted by Apex Pro Shop and Storm rep. Ralph Solan and naturally fell in love with every ball he tried including the Sync, IQ Pearl, and Reign of Power. However, there was one ball that stood out above the rest: the Defiant Soul. Maybe it had something to do with the string of 20 strikes he shot with it? JW was in love and had to have that ball the same day. The night night of league with the new ball he fired a 712 series; his first 700 ever. The great sets haven't ended there. Three months following the Matchmaker event he has rolled five more 700+ nights to his credit including 732, 746, 723, 718, and 739. JW and his Defiant Soul are a match made in Heaven, wait scratch that... JW and his Defiant Soul-MATE!!
"For someone with a less this perfect release, this ball forgives many mistakes. My average has improved by over 20 pins so far. This is by far the best ball I've ever owned!"

Averaged 235 for 15 games in our association 700 club tournament taking me all the way to the win.
Roto Grip Defiant Soul
PAP – 5 over and ½ up
Ball Speed: 15-17 mph
Rev Rate 300-350
Surface Preparation: Polished
What I wanted from this Ball: Clean throughout the front portion of the lanes creating hold when the heads dried up a bit and recovery when the oil carried down to the outside portion of the lanes.
Result: Exactly what I expected. Good length and some recovery with a consistent arc.
I tested this ball on our at home house condition on our wood lanes. The house pattern is heavy oil 16-18 ft. and buffed down to 32 ft. Our typical house pattern is not an easy pattern and usually creates carry down on the outsides of the lane and a massive snap in the middle. An out of bounds typically forms quickly and the mid-lane becomes very dry.
The Defiant Soul is a hybrid cover-stock and I tested this ball on a fresh oil pattern immediately after the lanes were oiled. I started at my typical area which is 30-35 with my feet and my target around 15 board sending the ball out to the 5 board. The Defiant Soul was clean through the front part of the lane and picked up about the 30ft area down lane and gave me a great arc to the pocket. I tested this ball for 6 games. After each game I moved one board left with my stance and kept the same target area until the 4th-6th game required moving my target to 20 and sending the ball out to the 8 board due to the carry-down. This ball continued to roll clean through the front part of the lanes and kept its arcing motion on the backend. I am very impressed with this ball on our house pattern. I was able to get the ball through our dryer mid-lane conditions and even get some recovery when I sent it wide.
Compared to my Defiant and my Defiant Edge, this ball isn’t as angular as my defiant but much cleaner through the front portion of the lanes. Compared to the Defiant Edge, my Defiant Soul did tend to pick up a little sooner and not flip as hard on the backend as expected on our lane condition. This is a great addition to the Defiant series and is perfect addition for my in-between ball with my Defiant and Defiant Edge.
I have Drilled up 6 Defiant Souls for various customers and have only positive feedback. This is an awesome ball!
I highly recommend to anyone purchasing the Defiant Soul first and deciding which direction to go from there when drilling up Defiant series.
