From concept to completion, we knew that we wanted a core shape that would create a "torque effect" after drilling the gripping holes. And after countless months of testing densities and shape adjustments, we finally got the core shape dialed in right where we wanted it.
It was that dynamic way of thinking that led to the retro style naming of the RST™ (Roto Star Tour) Core. A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, Roto Grip was commonly referred to as the "Original High-Performance Bowling Ball Specialists", so we felt it was only fitting to go back to our roots.
From there we knew we needed a coverstock that would compliment the core and showcase its dynamic ability. Again, during the countless tests of the core shape, we were also testing different coverstock formulations and different ratios of those covers.
In the end, we determined the new MicroTrax™ Hybrid cover was far and away our best option for the task at hand. This new formulation mixes our strongest resin components with our time tested nano-technology to form a material that not only creates great traction in oil when you sand it, but it also creates great responsiveness to friction down lane out of the box or when shined. Thus giving you a super versatile cover on a super dynamic core.
If you are wondering how the RST X-1 stacks up agains the UFO™ or say the RUBICON™, in all honesty, it is the ideal compliment to both. While the UFO showcases a strong MicroTrax cover which digs in on those slicker conditions, the X-1 clears the front of the lane much easier thanks in part to the hybrid cover and core dynamics and makes for an ideal ball if the UFO starts to roll a bit too early.
And while the RUBICON is a mild asymmetric with an eTrax solid cover, it may not be quite enough ball on those longer and slicker patterns. That is where the X-1 makes for a good starting ball and then you can transition to the RUBICON as the lane condition starts to break down after a few games.
All in all, the new X-1 is definitely one of the most versatile asymmetrical hybrid balls ever created. It will conquor those medium to heavy oil conditions and every condition in between. And because the core RG value is a touch higher than most asymmetrical shapes, it allows you to keep moving inside as the lane transitions while still providing strong backend movement.
So if you are in the market for a stronger ball that has plenty of giddy up down lane, search no more. THIS IS THE BALL FOR YOU!
